We wish the best to CBIC 2021 in South A

We are pleased to remind you that the first Chenin Blanc International Congress is approaching and will take place in Angers from the 1st to the 3rd of July 2019.

This inaugural edition is being co-organised by the Académie du Chenin and Destination Angers in partnership with Interloire, the Fédération Viticole d’Anjou Saumur, the Fédérations Viticoles d’Indre-et-Loire et de la Sarthe, the University of Stellenbosch and the South African Chenin Blanc Association.

The congress highlights the Chenin blanc grape variety, its versatility, its singularity and its terroirs. With an international dimension, the congress is a place for meetings and debates on the future of Chenin blanc in the face of the challenges of global viticulture, ie the environmental, climatic, economic, societal and cultural ones of the 21st century.

This professional congress is a continuation of the symposium of the University of Chenin at the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud in 2003 and the study day on Chenin blanc in 2015 at the Museum of Vine and Wine, Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay.

On the website, www.cbic2019.com, you will find the programme which was built by the international scientific committee in relationship to these issues, and highlights a diversity of responses that should lead to exciting debates and exchanges.

This programme will be accompanied by an exceptional tasting of several hundred Chenins from around the world.

Finally, in the afternoon, we offer various opportunities for visits related to the themes of the congress in the most beautiful terroirs of the Loire: climate change will be discussed in the face of the problem of the Quarts de Chaume appellation, a grand cru of sweet wines, as well as the reading of a landscape shaped by Chenin blanc as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Savennières, etc.

On Monday evening, a cocktail party in Angers will allow you to meet Chenin blanc enthusiasts from around the world in a friendly and informal way over a glass of Chenin! On Tuesday, you can attend a gala evening in the sumptuous setting of the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud during which the chefs will imaginatively compose the finest dishes to complement the world’s great Chenins.
